Crucial HCA elections today

September 07, 2014 01:16 pm | Updated 01:16 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The stage is set for the much-awaited elections to various posts in the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) today at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Uppal.

“A majority of voters are going to vote for change and defeat the ruling group,” asserts former India off-spinner Arshad Ayub, now contesting for the president post .

He also lashed out at his rival M. V. Sridhar (BCCI General Manager, Operations – and contesting for vice-presidentship) for claiming falsely that HCA coffers have a healthy bank balance of Rs.7.5 crore whereas account statements pursued show withdrawal to the tune of Rs.7 crore on the same date – Sept. 2. Balance is just Rs.2.46 crore,” charges Arshad, flanked by John Manoj (contesting for secretary’s post) and others.

Mr. Ayub also stated that the current ruling dispensation has not utilised the offer of Rs.57 crore annual grant offered for infrastructure improvement. On his part, Dr. Sridhar claimed that there was a drastic cut on wasteful expenditure during his two-year tenure and that HCA ended up in profits by way of hosting the two Tests match and the ODIs which “never happened before.”

Both the warring groups attest to a common goal of promoting cricket from grassroots level from the age group of under-14 to under-23, popularise women’s cricket in a big way by having leagues, ensure all league championships get over on time so that the players can benefit for their performances.
