The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Hyderabad City Committee on Wednesday demanded the government to shelve the plans of entering into an agreement with Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited for segregation and processing of municipal waste in the city.
By signing a pact under “Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project” with the company, the GHMC is trying to avoid the responsibility of ensuring better health for citizens, said CPI(M) City Committee secretary P.S.N Murthy in a press release.
This apart, the present expenditure incurred to segregate and process the municipal waste is around Rs. 700 per ton but under the agreement, GHMC would have to pay Rs.1, 431 per tonne to the company, which is economically not viable. World-wide, the deal to segregate and process municipal waste is done based on the number of households but this agreement is based on the weight, he claimed.
