The Telangana State Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) has requested the State government not to give its nod to the power tariff proposed by the two distribution companies and approved by Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) for 2015-16.
Party leaders Ch. Seetaramulu, John Wesley, T. Jyothi and others called on Energy Minister G. Jagadish Reddy in the Secretariat here on Monday. They submitted a memorandum to the Minister containing their plea. They argued that in the guise of keeping the tariff intact for consumers using energy up to 200 units a month, the distribution companies and TSERC had increased the burden on them indirectly. The aggregate increase of tariff by 4.42 per cent will burden people by Rs. 816 crore in the next financial year, they said. The CPI (M) leaders said as per the new slabs, the consumers would have to cough up heavy charges even if their consumption went one unit beyond 100 units. They reminded the Energy Minister of the statements made by government functionaries that power tariff would not be hiked in view of the conditions in the State.
