Reportedly driven by pecuniary problems, a financier and his wife poisoned their two children to death before hanging themselves in their house at Jeedimetla on Tuesday, the police said.

Bodies of Nalla Keshava Rao (42), and his wife N. Vanaja (35), were found hanging to the ceiling.

Their son Deepak (10) and daughter Nandini (3), were lying dead on the cot, the Jeedimetla Inspector A. Chandrashekhar said.

Rao was living in his two-storeyed house at Indrasingh Nagar with wife, children and octogenarian mother Chandramma.

In debts

He was into the business of arranging small amounts of hand loans for interest. “Of late, he slipped into debts and reportedly owed Rs. 60 lakh to different people,” the Inspector said.

Recently, he sold his house for Rs. 30 lakh. He was supposed to clear Rs. 15 lakh of house loan. From the remaining sum, he reportedly cleared some debts.

On Tuesday morning, his tenants living on the first floor knocked on the landlord’s ground floor portion as they didn’t come out.

Rao’s mother Chandramma, whose eye sight was not clear, opened the door.

They searched for Rao and found him hanging to the ceiling along with his wife.

Diary found

No suicide note was found but one of the pages of Rao’s personal diary stated that a person called Subba Reddy cheated him.
