A farmer D. Ramesh and his wife consumed poison at Shamirpet police station on the city outskirts on Saturday, allegedly after the Inspector P. Kasi Reddy misbehaved with the latter.
The wife and husband were admitted to Mediciti Hospital in Shamirpet.
The woman’s younger sister Manga, speaking to The Hindu over phone, alleged that the Inspector misbehaved with her sister when they went to the police station to explain about their land case which was pending for past several months.
“We met the Cyberabad Police Commissioner and went to the police station to give our petition endorsed by him. On seeing the petition, the Inspector began abusing us,” Ms. Manga said.
She maintained that her sister tried to record the abuses mouthed by the Inspector with the camera in her mobile phone.
According to her, the Inspector became furious on noticing that the woman was recording the visuals. He forcibly collected the mobile phone from her even as she concealed it inside her clothes.
“Shocked over this, the wife and husband came out of his chamber and some time later consumed poison,” Ms. Manga said.
She said that a complaint was yet to be lodged against the alleged misbehaviour.
However, the Inspector denied the allegation and claimed that Ramesh sold off 11 acres of land at Uddamarri village while his wife was living separately.
“Of late, they reunited and approached us stating that the police should help them get back the land stating that some persons forcibly got the land registered after abducting Ramesh,” the Inspector said.
He stated that the woman made the false allegation of misbehaviour to pressurise him to act in her favour in the land case.
