The Congress rally in New Delhi on Sunday against the Land Acquisition Bill brought all the warring groups in the Telangana Congress together for a change.

As many as 2,000 Congress leaders and workers from all the 10 districts of Telangana attended the rally addressed by party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Elaborate arrangements were made by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee to mobilise cadres for the rally.

Who’s Who of the Telangana Congress including TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, CLP leader K. Jana Reddy, Leader of Opposition in Council Md. Ali Shabbir, former PCC chief D. Srinivas, former Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy, sitting MPs, legislators, former State Ministers and others attended the rally.

Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who was the only State Congress chief to speak at the rally, condemned the anti-farmer, pro-corporate stand of the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Stating that the farming community across the country in general and Telangana in particular was in crisis, Mr. Reddy quoting a research study by Osmania University academic said as many as 760 ryots had ended their lives. “There is little effort from the Centre and State governments to instil confidence among farmers,” he lamented.

The TPCC chief wondered why the TRS government was silent when the Centre was determined to go ahead with the LA Bill. Talking to The Hindu from New Delhi, Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said all leaders from Telangana participated in the rally enthusiastically.
