Congress magnifying non-issues: Venkaiah

Party has single-point agenda of disrupting proceedings in Parliament when in Opposition, says Union Minister

March 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 02, 2016 10:11 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday lashed out at the Congress for raising a hue and cry over the Delhi Police going to the residence of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and said the officers were only doing their job, considering that Mr. Gandhi was a VIP with ‘Z’ category protection.

“Instances like this have happened to us — myself, our party’s national president Amit Shah and even to one of the senior-most politicians L.K. Advani. The police are just doing their job and as responsible leaders, we should allow them to do it. We have even had our phones tapped but we didn’t raise a ruckus. There were occasions when officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendents and Additional Superintendents of Police have visited our residences,” he told presspersons at the Begumpet airport.

He was speaking on his return from a hectic campaign in Khammam and Nalgonda districts in connection with the elections to the Legislative Council for the two Graduates’ constituencies of Warangal-Nalgonda-Khammam and Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy-Mahabubnagar. “The Congress always has a single-point agenda — of disrupting the proceedings in Parliament, whenever they are in the Opposition and their behaviour knows no logic,” Mr. Naidu fumed.

Just yesterday (Saturday), even when the Congress members were told that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was away in London to unveil a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Parliament Square, they were agitated and said they would raise their question only on Monday.

“They are agitated and term it an insult even when Mr. Modi has to go out of Parliament on work,” the Union Minister said, visibly irritated.
