Groupism in the Adilabad district Congress came to the fore during the birth centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Adilabad town on Sunday.

Senior party leader V. Hanumanth Rao who was the chief guest at the event organised at the Indira Gandhi statue near Railway station had to slap a couple of party workers to bring about order. VHR was irked with the way the followers of former District Congress Committee president C. Ramchander Reddy and those of TPCC secretary G. Sujata crowded the dais even before the start of proceedings. He himself squatted in front of the dais to get the partymen to vacate it.

The followers of the two groups accused each other of encroaching the dais and the Sujata group also accused the Ramchander Reddy group of deliberately reducing the size of photo of their leader in the banner. The workers also exchanged blows.
