Congress credits Sonia for birth of Telangana

Holds ‘Thanksgiving Meet’; other parties also organise formation day celebrations. TDP leaders organised separate celebrations at the party office.

Celebrations of Telangana’s first Formation Day got off to a flying start at the Gandhi Bhavan here, with Congress leaders reminding people in the new State that first and foremost it was the Congress that they should thank for turning a six-and-a-half-decades-old dream into reality.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, working president Bhatti Vikramarka and several senior party leaders participated in a ‘Thanksgiving Meet’ organised to express their gratefulness to AICC president Sonia Gandhi without whom they said Telangana would not have been possible at all.

At the State office of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya hoisted the national flag in the presence of the party’s Floor Leaders K. Laxman (Assembly), N. Ramchander (Council).

TDP leaders organised separate celebrations at the party office with Errabelli Dayakar Rao, L.Ramana and others participating in it.

Mr. Dattatreya also did the honours, unfurling the national flag at the Martyrs Memorial, Ashoka Pillar in Koti Bus Stand circle here in the presence of president of the Telangana Swatantra Senani Samithi, B. Babu Rao Varma, MP and secretary-general of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Keshav Rao, and others.

APSRTC to function

as separate entities

Joint Managing Director of the yet-to-be-formally-bifurcated Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation G.V. Ramana Rao unfurled the national flag at Bus Bhavan, the corporate headquarters, and said that from Wednesday, the corporation would start functioning as two separate entities for AP and Telangana from the ‘A’ and ‘B’ blocks, respectively.

Chairman and Managing Director of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana, T. Srinivas, hoisted the tri-colour and said that despite some people propagating that the new State could see dark days post-bifurcation, the State had done away with scheduled and emergency load reliefs during the summer.

As for the newly-formed Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Special Officer V. Praveen Rao garlanded a statue of Prof. Jayashankar on the campus.

At the office of the Department of Prisons, in-charge Director-General K. Keshava Naidu unfurled the national flag and also laid flowers before a portrait of ‘Telangana Talli’.
