City Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and MAUD Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar late on Friday night paid a surprise visit to several locations in the city where road repair at an estimated cost of ₹700 crore, is underway.

The inspection took place late in the night on Saturday, to assess the progress of works and ensure that there were no problems for commuters and residents of the areas.

Mr. Rammohan and Mr. Kumar inspected work at Jubilee Hills Road No. 5, near the Nalagandla flyover, Masjid Banda. They said that repairs should be completed before the monsoon.

Mr. Kumar said any compromise on the quality of repairs or instances of irregularities will not be tolerated.

The city’s flyovers will soon cease to appear drab. The GHMC will embark on a project to beautify them. This includes painting, using LED lights and increasing greenery. The move comes after both the Mayor and the Principal Secretary visited the national capital and saw similar measures being taken up.

The flyovers which were on the list of beautification include those in Hitec City and Gachibowli. While the GHMC will work on those in the former, the HMDA has been entrusted to beautify those in the latter.
