A division bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice G. Shyam Prasad on Tuesday directed the Telangana government to complete the digitalisation of records of Waqf Board within six weeks and hand over the records, database to Waqf Board.

The bench was disposing of a case filed by M.A.K. Mukheed, practising advocate of High Court. He alleged that the government had acted high-handedly in sealing the board office without jurisdiction. A full-fledged board is in place and the officers cannot take over the minority institution in this manner.

D. Praksh Reddy, Advocate General of Telangana told the court that the digitalisation of records, especially the land records, is essential and this is being done. The regular functioning of Waqf Board is not interfered with. The bench said that the manner in which the seals were put may not be correct, but the declared intention to digitalise cannot be found fault with. The bench said that the regular working may not be disturbed and digitalisation be completed by six weeks.
