September 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated November 01, 2016 08:49 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Civil Supplies Department is accepting applications from the genuine beneficiaries, whose food security cards have been wrongly eliminated, and the cards will be restored after duly verifying the details, a press statement from the department informed on Saturday. Responding to the news story ‘Four wheelers rob garbage collectors of food security’ published on Friday, the District Supply Officer of Hyderabad has issued a clarification, admitting that a few eligible beneficiaries lost their cards owing to the criteria of four wheelers. Besides the vehicles obtained under various schemes through loan, in some other instances of elimination, ownership of the vehicle was not transferred, the statement explained. Instructions have already been issued towards restoring such cards.

In all, 92,480 cardholders were either paying property tax for having land above 200 square yards, or paying electricity charges of Rs.1000 or more per month, or already having food security cards from the Integrated Public Information Hub project, the department said.
