The next edition of DEFTRONICS, a summit focussed on defence electronics, will be held in Hyderabad on August 31 and September 1.

The event will be held in the city for the first time and its theme will be ‘Accelerating self-reliance in aerospace, defence and internal security.’ Delhi and Bengaluru had played host to the previous three editions.

A premier event of the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association, the sessions at DEFTRONICS 2017 would focus on various opportunities in the defence, defence manufacturing, skilling and major programs of defence, according to IESA vice chairman Anil Muniswamy said.

Founder and executive chairman of IT firm Cyient, B. V. R. Mohan Reddy said the summit provided visibility to the opportunities in the defence electronics industry, especially in the backdrop of the government’s emphasis on ‘Make in India’. From policy makers, to designers, to manufacturers, the summit would have participants from across the spectrum.

Over 300 delegates were expected to participate in the summit, which would also feature exhibits from over 20 companies, including start-ups in the aerospace and defence space.

The objective was to strengthen the ecosystem and help participating companies reach out to wider network; engage with peers on exchanging ideas and discovering new opportunities, a release said.

Joint Director, Telangana’s ITE&C Department, Deepthi Ravula spoke on the industry-friendly policy measures initiated by the State government.

The IESA DEFTRONICS Awards – to recognise outstanding individuals and role models in innovation and excellence in the electronics and design services ecosystems in aerospace and defence industry – would be presented at the summit.
