City to have piped gas supply by 2018-19, says Dattatreya

Minister for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya said efforts are on to make piped cooking gas available in the entire Greater Hyderabad area by 2018-19.

Addressing the media here on Saturday after a review meeting with oil marketing companies’ representatives, Mr. Dattatreya said a total of 1,100 families between Shamirpet and Qutbullahpur have been provided with piped gas connections in the first phase of the project taken up by the Bhagyanagar Gas Limited.

In the second phase, pipeline network will be built between Qutbullahpur and JNTU, Kukatpally, he informed, and said the whole city will be covered thereon in a phased manner.

Speaking on the LPG connections, he said the Centre has sanctioned 4.73 lakh LPG connections for the eligible beneficiaries in Telangana, apart from the 3.2 lakh it has already given, under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojna.

A total of Rs. 51.29 crore have been allotted for the same.

13 CNG stations

The city will also be sanctioned 13 CNG filling stations, in addition to the existing 18. Answering a question, the Minister said 3.5 lakh consumers from a total of 85.6 lakh have voluntarily surrendered their LPG subsidy in response to a call given by the Centre for the same.

Mr. Dattatreya further informed that construction of LPG bottling unit of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited at Karimnagar will be complete by March 2018, and the fuel storage point at Maheshwaram by Indian Oil Corporation by March 2017.
