Taking police-public interface to the next level using technology, the Hyderabad police on Wednesday launched a mobile phone application for citizens with multiple utility features.

Named ‘Hawk Eye’, the application empowers the public to become ‘citizen police’, said Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy at a press conference. Using the app, people can report traffic violations, commission of offences, crime against women and violations by police to police officials.

Women’s safety They can make suggestions to improve policing and report the good work done by the police as well, the Commissioner said.

To ensure a safe journey for women on city roads, the app has ‘Women Travel Made Easy’ link. One can enter the place of boarding a vehicle, its number, place of destination, select vehicle type and submit.

In case of any problem, the woman can select ‘report safety concerns’, enter ‘details description of concerns’ and submit it. The message would go to the police station concerned and the police can intercept the vehicle based on the details given, the Commissioner explained.

In SOS feature, one can enter his or her details, five mobile phone numbers, create emergency button and alert it in case of emergency. Similar is the ‘Emergency’ feature in which a person can select emergency contact button and select any police officer’s number to call.

Ideal for feedback While these features of the app make reaching the police easier, it also has links for giving feedback on the action taken by the police called ‘know your status’. Details of initiatives taken and information given by the local police can be learnt by entering details in ‘community policing’ link.
