A criminal case was registered against the Country Club of Begumpet by the Punjagutta police here on Wednesday following a complaint lodged by a private company manager accusing it of cheating him.
The complainant, O. Ram Reddy of Motinagar, approached police alleging that he had received a phone call congratulating him for being selected for a gift voucher from Country Club. The caller had asked him to visit the Club with his family.
When Mr. Reddy went to the Club, its employees told him that he can avail life membership of the club by paying Rs. 1.4 lakh with the option of paying the sum in equal monthly instalments of Rs. 8,000.
“They told me I can pay Rs. 8,000 a month to avail the membership. I gave them my bank card using which they withdrew Rs. 1.4 lakh at once,” the Punjagutta Inspector was quoted him as saying. Mr. Reddy charged that the club had cheated him by violating the agreement and conditions explained to him. He maintained that he approached the Club personnel to return his money but the latter refused to oblige. A case under section 420 (cheating) of IPC was registered.
