Cantonment VP term split between 3 members

March 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) decided to split the five-year term of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) Vice-President among three elected ward members, starting with ward two member S. Keshav Reddy, who would be elected unanimously during the election scheduled on Tuesday.

The decision was taken on Monday during a meeting chaired by Excise Minister T. Padma Rao Goud, Commercial Taxes Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Mynempally Hanumanth Rao.

All ward members, excluding ward seven member, a Congressman, were present at the meeting. It was decided that Mr. Reddy would be the Vice-President for two years.

Other ward members would be elected following Mr. Reddy’s term for two years and the last one year of the present Board’s term before the Secunderabad Cantonment Board heads for next election in 2019.

The newly-elected ward members took oath on February 20, but did not elect a vice-president. Seven of the eight ward members are TRS affiliates.

Though the party had decided to elect Mr. Reddy as its candidate, some hiccups in the decision making of TRS top brass occurred last week after notices were served against relatives of Mr. Reddy by SCB for irregularities in constructions. That notwithstanding, leaders agreed to Mr. Reddy’s candidature as he was a two-time ward member.
