Anantapur businessman K Girish went to a TV artist’s house under the guise of collecting signatures for the ₹ 1 lakh hand-loan given to her and raped her after mixing sedatives in a drink.

The accused businessman from Anantapur district of Andha Pradesh, took her pictures and video even as she was unconscious and sexually exploited her, threatening to make public the video clips and pictures. The heinous crime came to light when the woman approached Rachakonda police who rushed a special team and arrested the accused on Wednesday.

Threatening to post her private video and pictures online, the accused ‘summoned’ the woman from L.B. Nagar to Anantapur and confined her to a room there. “He continued to violate her in confinement,” the L.B. Nagar DCP M. Venkateshwara Rao said.

A TV serial artist, the victim got introduced to Girish. Last year, she contacted him seeking a loan of ₹ 1 lakh. After giving the money, the accused went to her house in November, 2016 for getting her signature on the loan papers.

“When the artist offered a drink, Girish mixed some sedatives in it without her knowledge. The unsuspecting woman gulped it and fell unconscious,” the DCP said. Girish allegedly raped her while she was unconscious and recorded her video and clicked her pictures.

He left her house. After a few days, he phoned her and told her to come to Anantapur to “spend time with him’. He threatened to post the video clips and pictures on social media if she failed to do so.

Scared by his threats, the woman went to Anantapur where Girish confined her in the room of a house, Mr. Rao narrated. Later, he forcibly collected her gold ornaments and set her free. Based on her complaint, a criminal case was registered.

He was picked up from Anantapur and brought to city.
