Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao has informed that a programme ‘Jalam-Jeevam’ will be taken up for water conservation in the GHMC area.
While speaking at the ‘Mana Nagaram’ programme at Miyapur here on Saturday, Mr. Rama Rao stressed on the importance of having rainwater harvesting pits, and said the orders making such pits mandatory for structures over 300 square metres in area are not being adhered to. Though there are thousands of buildings falling within the criterion, very few have the water harvesting pits.
If such structures are not built within six months as per rules, the owner of the house and the corresponding official too will be made responsible and penalised, Mr. Rama Rao warned, calling for extensive campaign to be taken up by zonal and deputy commissioners for construction of the pits on war footing.
