The Prohibition and Excise Department officials on Friday arrested two persons for allegedly trying to sell brown sugar to some known persons at a bus stop in Dilsukhnagar.
Over 100 grams of brown sugar stuffed in a plastic cover was seized from the arrested persons identified as Mohammed Ghouse, 23, of Kadapa and Mohammed Salman, 20, of Hayathnagar.
Posing as customers, Excise personnel approached Ghouse and Salman at Dilsukhnagar bus stop and nabbed them. The duo brought the contraband in a car from Kadapa.
The prime accused, Rehmathullah, hailing from Kadapa, along with his associate, Naveen of Kukatpally, are absconding, said Saroornagar Excise Inspector K.G. Nanda Gopal.
Inquiries revealed that Rehmathullah was bringing brown sugar to Kadapa via Madanapalle in Chittoor district from Goa and selling it to known customers in the capital through his associates. “We booked a case under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act and arrested them,” Mr. Gopal said.
The worth of the narcotic substance was placed at Rs. 2.8 lakh.
Ghouse was working as a technician in a mobile store in Kadapa while Salman was a businessman. “We are collecting more details from the arrested persons to trace the supplier, Rehmathullah,” Mr. Gopal added.
