Panic gripped Munugunur village in Hayathnagar after a five-year-old boy sustained burns when a high tension (HT) wire snapped and fell on him at his residence on Sunday.
The incident occurred when the boy, Vignesh, was playing in front of his house. His family members rushed him to a corporate hospital in L.B. Nagar where his condition was said to be critical.
Lineman detained
Irate villagers later caught hold of the junior electrical lineman, Krishna, holding him responsible for the incident and detained him in a community hall.
“We requested Krishna to replace the wire as it is posing danger to everyone. However, he ignored our pleas resulting in serious burns to the boy,” the villagers alleged.
They also staged a demonstration in front of the community hall seeking stern action against those responsible for the incident. Senior officials from APTransco rushed to the spot and pacified the villagers stating that action would be initiated against the errant employees. Authorities said compensation would also be given to the boy’s family.
