A teenaged son murdered his mother by slitting the woman’s throat following a quarrel over ₹200 late on Saturday night. The boy fled the scene after the offence. According to Mangalhat Station House Officer, A. Sanjeeva Rao, the boy and his 45-year-old mother, Renuka, survived by picking rags.

The boy was allegedly addicted to alcohol and used to demand money to buy liquor. “The neighbours told us that the duo had a fight about money on Saturday night. In a fit of rage, he slit his mother’s throat with a vegetable knife,” the official said. The police have registered a case against the minor and sent the woman’s body for autopsy.

The police also had to make arrangements for the final rites of the woman and got her neighbours from her area of residence to perform the rituals.
