A powerful explosion in a steel company at Bibinagar in Nalgonda district on Sunday morning claimed the lives of two persons. Ten persons sustained grievous injuries and the condition of six is serious.

The blast took place at Nimaragondla village of Nalgonda district around 7.45 a.m. Twelve persons were working when a boiler exploded after catching fire. While Surender Chouhan (25) died on the spot, Balaram (24) died as he was being rushed to the Gandhi Hospital here.

The 10 persons injured were shifted to Gandhi Hospital and to a private hospital in Chandrayangutta. The condition of six of the workers who were admitted to Gandhi Hospital was said to be critical, according to the police. Police said that the company recruited unskilled workers, all hailing from Bihar, for meagre salaries and was operating boilers without the supervision of technicians for the past few months. Minutes after the first shift workers began going about their duties, the boiler suddenly exploded.

When contacted, Superintendent of Police, Nalgonda district, Rajesh Kumar said the reasons behind the incident were yet to be ascertained. “We have registered a case and called for an inspection by the Inspector of Boilers. Only the expert's report can establish the culpability,” he told The Hindu , adding that stringent action will be initiated against those responsible for the incident.
