The BJP plans to mobilise a large number of party workers to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Begumpet airport on Tuesday, but the police are unlikely to permit a gathering of that nature.

As per the schedule, Mr. Modi will meet party workers from 1.20 p.m. to 1.35 p.m. at the airport and then take a helicopter to fly to Miyapur for inauguration of metro rail. A dais will be set up under the portico at the entrance of the airport where senior BJP leaders will felicitate Mr. Modi. After meeting the leaders, Mr. Modi will address the crowd and go back into the airport.

A memorandum seeking categorisation of SCs, which the State BJP has supported, is likely to be given to Mr. Modi. However, the wish-list will be prepared at a meeting on Monday evening, a senior leader said. Party State president K. Laxman said the party had asked its city unit to mobilise a large crowd. Director-General of Police M. Mahender Reddy said permission for a major gathering would not be given because it would require a long time to frisk every individual.
