The National Backward Classes Welfare Association has criticised the Telangana government for reducing reservations of Backward Classes in BC Gurukuls and hostels and increasing the same for minorities.
In a statement here, R. Krishnaiah, president of the association said, as per the latest GO reservations to BC-A have been reduced from 20% to 18%, for BC-B from 28% to 26% and for BC-D group from 20% to 18%. At the same time for minorities, reservation had been increased to 10% from 4%. He said the government was creating differences between BCs and minorities.
He said BC quota of 25% in SC and ST residential schools was not being followed so far. He said in the last 45 years in all the schemes of the BC Welfare, 85% of the benefits used to be given to them exclusively but the TRS government has reduced it to 65%. When minorities have exclusive residential schools why is the BC quota being reduced, he asked. Mr. Krishnaiah also alleged that 119 BC residential schools promised by CM K. Chandrashekara Rao were yet to start.
