The water woes of residents of Bandlaguda in Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency are going to end very soon.
The drinking water project undertaken by the HMWSSB here at a cost of Rs. 40 crore has been completed and if all goes well, water is set to be released soon.
As of now tap water remains a distant dream for the people staying in Noorinagar, Jahangirabad, Ghousenagar, Ahmednagar, Mohammednagar and Ismailnagar areas. These thickly populated colonies are inhabited mostly by the working class.
Water tankers from Aliabad and Mir Alam reservoirs make around fifty trips everyday to supply drinking water. Every family here has half a dozen barrels for storing water.
Yet people have complaints over the supply of water to their colonies through water tankers and borewells.
People also bring water from far off places like Chandrayangutta, Shamsheergunj and Mylardevpally in autos and motorcycles.
Network works
According to officials, the distribution network works along with other works have been completed and the lines tested.
The works are to be officially taken over by the technical wing of the Board paving way for release of water, it is said.
Two reservoirs one at Maisaram of five million litres (ML) capacity and another at Ghousenagar of 2ML capacity were completed long ago.
Population in these areas has grown considerably from the time the reservoirs were sanctioned in 2007 and so have the water crisis.
Ironically, though the water reservoir and distribution network are ready the Board is yet to start a new section in the area and appoint manager and support staff.
