The bad condition of BT roads in different parts of the State had become a cause of concern for the legislators.

The issue, which came up during the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, saw a series of complaints from the ruling party legislators. The legislators including Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy and A. Ramesh complained that potholes on the important roads were causing severe problems to the commuting people and accidents were being reported frequently.

Another legislator N. Bhaskar Rao who switched loyalties to the Congress went to the extent of doubting that he was being discriminated against by the government as he happened to be from the Congress. The seriousness of the situation could be seen from the fact that Speaker S. Madhusudanachary himself admitted that he was faced with the same complaints.

Mr. Ramalinga Reddy and Mr. Ramesh complained that works on some important roads were not included because of the mistakes on the part of officials and these roads were crying for attention. Absence of coordination between the Panchayat Raj and Roads & Buildings departments made sure that works on these roads were not taken up, they complained.

They demanded that Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao take the initiative in convening the meetings with the departments concerned so that an effective coordination could be forged between them. The Minister said the BT renewal works were neglected by the previous Congress government as could be seen from the ₹416 crore spent during the 10-year rule. The TRS Government had, however, initiated works worth more than ₹2,500 crore covering 14,900 km length.
