The Akshaya Patra Foundation, that serves mid-day meals to an estimated one lakh hungry children in over 800 government schools every day, kicked off a programme on Wednesday to provide shoes for their scarred soles.

The drive was inaugurated by Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao at the Zilla Parishad High School in Sangareddy titled ‘Back to School - With Shoes’, with Akshaya Patra State president Satya Gaurachandra Dasa.

The Minister appreciated the foundation’s work and assured of State government’s support in future too, adding that people from all walks of life should come forward and help in whatever way they could.

In response, Mr. Dasa conveyed his gratefulness to the government and the district administration and said he was committed to rendering more services to the society.

Those present included MP K. Prabhakar Reddy, MLA C. Prabhakar (Sangareddy), district collector Manicka Raj and DEO Vijayakumari.
