Former India captain Mohd Azharuddin demanded fresh elections to Hyderabad Cricket Association. “The earlier president G. Vivekanand quits and dissolves the body the better,” Mr. Azhar told the media here on Saturday.

“I reiterate that from day one everything was done in an illegal manner by the ruling group. They have been consistently violating all the guidelines of the Justice Lodha Committee,” he said.

“The letters from the BCCI top brass stating that there is no bar on me from holding any post either in the ICC\BCCI or any State association, or the identity cards issued by the then HCA secretary T. Seshnarayan to attend the last SGM (January 7, 2017), are proof enough that the HCA president has been lying repeatedly in my case,” Mr. Azhar said.

“I am contemplating on initiating legal action against the then ad hoc panel chairman of HCA P.C. Jain and others who were involved in denying my fundamental right to contest the HCA elections in January 2017 by suppressing this crucial communication. It was criminal on their part to treat me the way they did,” he said.

“I also make it clear that I have no animosity towards any individual, including the HCA president. But I make it clear that giving a new direction to the sport in the State and in Hyderabad are my topmost priorities now,” he said.

The former India batsman said they had already written to the top brass of the BCCI about the ongoings in the HCA and were waiting for a positive response.

“We will wait for a couple of weeks and maybe meet them personally along with senior cricketers like Shivbhai (N. Shivlal Yadav), Raju and others,” Mr. Azhar explained.

He questioned the authority of former HCA president G. Vinod in sitting on the dais at HCA meetings. “For someone who is charge-sheeted by the ACB, he is not supposed to occupy important positions during HCA events,” he said.

Mr. Azhar also found fault with the way HCA has been functioning of late with its president and secretary at loggerheads.

“The TPL being conducted by the HCA is illegal. You have to have a governing council to run it and should obtain permission from the BCCI. So far, they have not done anything to promote cricket in the districts,” Mr. Azar said.

“Let me make it clear. I have not registered with the UP Cricket Association as was being alleged. Neither am I connected to the Telangana Cricket Association. My affiliation will only be with Hyderabad and HCA. With the support of all the members, I am here to clean up the mess,” he concluded.
