The State government has decided to create a 15 per cent supernumerary quota for foreign nationals, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and children of Indian workers in Gulf countries who seek admission to engineering, pharmacy, architecture, MBA and MCA courses.
In orders issued on Tuesday, the government said the admissions would be based on merit.
The 15 per cent seats would be distributed equally among the three categories, the fee structure for which would be decided by the Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC).
Fees prescribed for NRI quota seats, however, would not be applicable to these admissions. Children of Indian workers in Gulf countries, who have been included in the quota, would be treated on a par with resident citizens as regards other formalities.
A committee headed by the Commissioner of Technical Education will ratify the admissions. Colleges would have to submit the list of admitted candidates to the Technical Education Department by July 31 with relevant documents like passport and visa. They have to verify the credentials of candidates keeping national security in view. Candidates so admitted also have to satisfy eligibility criteria as prescribed by the AICTE.
