Another mandrill monkey dies at Nehru Zoo Park

July 25, 2014 12:47 am | Updated 12:47 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A mandrill monkey died at the Nehru Zoological Park here on Thursday morning due to massive congestive heart failure.

Brought from Israel

The zoo had received mandrills from the Tisch Family Zoological Gardens in Jerusalem, Israel in November last year.

Another mandrill had died in March and an autopsy then concluded the cause of death as resulting from a cardiac problem coupled with brain haemorrhage.

A statement from the zoo said prophylactic measures for monsoon season had been taken up to prevent diseases at the facility. This included super bleaching of all wet moats, cleaning and sanitation of all animal houses and kraals, providing protected quarters to all animals and birds and antibiotic drugs in the feed and water.
