Annual poll for GHMC Standing Committee

The process of electing the last Standing Committee of the present Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been initiated by the civic body. A total of 15 members will be elected on June 6 to replace the present members in the annual exercise.

A notification setting in process the election schedule has already been issued by the GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, to elect 15 members from among the 150 corporators.

The last date for filing nominations is Monday and the last date for withdrawal is May 31. The polling is scheduled to be held on June 6 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and the results are to be declared the same day. The present Standing Committee, which was elected in June last, has eight Congress and seven MIM members. It was elected when both the parties had an understanding. The recent developments in the wake of Assembly and Parliament elections make the coming contest for the Standing Committee interesting as the MIM has moved closer to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS).
