All set for distribution of KCR Kits on June 3

Each kit to have 16 types of articles

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will launch the KCR Kits programme of the State government to distribute essentials to women who underwent delivery at government hospitals at the maternity hospital at Petlaburj here on June 3.

Each kit will have 16 types of articles worth ₹ 2,000 for the woman and the infant which will be given away to the mother soon after delivery. The distribution of KCR Kits will be taken up in all 841 government hospitals where institutional deliveries take place.

Under the programme, registration of pregnant women commenced in the State and more than two lakh members were registered. They would be given ₹ 12,000 in three instalments and ₹ 1,000 additionally if they gave birth to a female child.

Health Minister C. Lakshma Reddy held a meeting at the Secretariat here on Friday to review medical services and arrangements for distribution of KCR Kits in the State. The kits would be distributed in nine teaching hospitals, six district hospitals, three Mother and Child Care Centres, 30 area hospitals, 114 community health centres, 314 primary health centres that function round the clock and another 365 PHCs .

Of 6.28 lakh deliveries in Telangana, at least 50 per cent should take place in government hospitals, the Minister said. At present, government hospitals accounted for about 30 to 40 per cent of institutional deliveries.

He said that apart from providing medical equipment and medicines, it was decided to organise examinations in all maternity centres and take up institutional deliveries. Accordingly, medical teams would be reorganised. A mother and child care centre should be set up immediately in Medchal district centre, he said.

The Minister also reviewed the district-wise medical hospitals and maternity centres. Acknowledging some shortage of doctors and staff, he said till new recruitments were made, existing doctors and staff be reorganised. Each unit should have a gynaecologist, anaesthetist, paediatrician, and nursing and paramedical staff.

Medchal Collector M. V. Reddy told the Minister about available plots for setting up mother and child care centre at Medchal district centre and that they were mobilising funds for the purpose.
