Telangana has larger ambitions than the Centre on the digital front, IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao said on Friday, adding that the State government proposed to provide broadband connectivity to every household.

Addressing the opening session of India Gadget Expo 2015, a four-day event that he inaugurated on Friday, the Minister said the broadband plan is to be achieved over the next three years. Both the Centre and the State government’s emphasis to promote innovation, he said, could result in the next big start-up emerging from the country. The slogan of both the governments, he added, was to help innovate, incubate and incorporate.

The second edition of the IGE features around 45 start-ups, he said, while expressing confidence that in the years ahead, the event would emerge as one of the most sought after international technology exhibitions.

IGE 2015 chairman J.A. Chowdary underscored the need for measures to support SMEs (small and medium enterprises) engaged in electronic manufacturing, including centralised testing facility. The ITIs also need to update their syllabus and reorient themselves by imparting training on the latest systems. This will help in ensuring a steady stream of trained manpower for the SMEs. The IGE has over 100 stalls of technology companies showcasing various products and solutions.
