It was a medley of patriotic songs from Hindi movies — instrumental favourites and a few martial tunes — as an Indian Air Force band stirred up a soulful storm in a mall in the city in the run up to Independence Day.
Shoppers were pleasantly surprised and raced to the atrium railing when they heard the martial notes of emblazoned struck by a small group of Indian Air Force personnel. And the audience began humming as the band performed ‘y eh sama ’ from the movie Jab Jab Phool Khiley .
Variety of songs
The performance was not limited to Hindi songs, as Corporal R.K. Sinha got into the mood and sang Bhupen Hazarika’s dil hoom hoom karey , while the and the whole band performed the 70s dance anthem ‘ my heart goes sha-la-la’ .
“This is one of the ways we give back to society and is one of the ways where the IAF comes in contact with people,” said Air Commodore Suresh Badyal of IAF Begumpet Station, speaking during a short break before the performance resumed.
A fitting finale to the pre-Independence Day hour-long performance was the rendition of Vande Mataram and Saare Jahan Se Acha .
Telangana Tourism collaborated with the IAF for staging the event in the city.
