The Cyberabad police on Tuesday arrested a youngster along with his two friends for allegedly killing his adoptive mother, who refused to give money for his lavish expenses.
The accused Srinivas, with the help of his accomplices Jeevan Kumar and Srinath, strangled 50-year-old Nirmala and escaped with property documents and gold jewellery weighing 11 tolas from their house on August 24.
The trio later packed the body in a cover and took it to an isolated place at Choutuppal where they burnt it to conceal her identity. Nirmala was killed when her husband Chalapathi Rao was away from the house.
Srinivas later went to Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) police station and lodged a complaint stating that his mother was missing.
Based on his complaint, the police registered a missing case and flashed message to all the police stations.
A few days later, policemen with the help of family members identified a charred body that was found at Choutuppal as Nirmala’s.
After collecting details from relatives, the police confirmed that some persons known to the victim could have been involved in the murder. Since then, the police kept a tab on the movements of Srinivas.
“After confirming his role, we took Srinivas into custody and interrogated him. He confessed to having committed the crime with the help of his friends,” said KPHB Inspector C. Baswa Reddy.
He said the gold ornaments and property documents were recovered from Srinivas.
Police officials said that the victim adopted her brother’s son Srinivas to take care of her coconuts business in KPHB Colony. He, however, started demanding money from Nirmala to meet his lavish expenses. He bore a grudge against her when she refused to give money to him and decided to eliminate her.
Two held for murder
In a separate case, a 32-year-old woman P. Rajyalaxmi and her paramour A. Sekhar were nabbed by the police for allegedly killing her husband Prasad at Jeedimetla on September 18.
The duo strangled Prasad as he was returning home in an inebriated condition everyday and harassing her over trivial issues.
After killing him, they dumped the body near a graveyard at Ayodhyanagar in Jeedimetla.
