The Indervelli martyrs column from where the Adivasi ‘maha padayatra’ is scheduled to start on Nov. 6.

The Adivasi Raj Gonds from Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Nirmal districts will take out a maha padayatra from Indervelli martyrs column in Indervelli mandal to Utnoor headquarter of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency, both in Adilabad district, on November 6.

The event is being organised to raise a demand for removing the Lambada tribe from the Scheduled Tribe list in order to protect the interest of aboriginal tribes.

Various Adivasi outfits are involved in organising the 16-km long march under the guidance of respective village headmen.

The organisations spent the last few days in spreading awareness on the issue of reservation to Lambada community and how it has harmed the interest of the ethnic people.

Given the experience of the recent past, the turnout is expected to be quite large. Last month, the Raj Gonds took out a rally at KB Asifabad headquarter which was quite large in terms of attendance.

The current phase of rivalry between Adivasis and Lambadas in these districts has its genesis in the October 6 incident when the statue of a Lambada woman at Jodeghat tribal museum was burnt.

Cases booked

The police booked cases against the Adivasis alleged to be involved in the incident. This was followed by a rally by Lambadas at Asifabad, the permission for which was given by the administration.

However, the latter created hindrances when the aboriginal people wanted to take out a rally which culminated in vandalism.
