Actor Poojitha lodges complaint against husband

May 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Former actress Poojitha, who is best known for her work in Jandhyala’s film, ‘Ladies Special’ and a few other films a decade ago, on Tuesday lodged a complaint against her husband after personally meeting Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy.

The contention of the actress was that the marriage of Vijay Gopal, her husband, with an Indian Administrative Service officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, Rekha Rani, on April 28, was against the law, because her husband and she were not divorced yet and that they had a 14 year-old son.

Injustice

It also meant injustice to her, she said in her complaint.

Ms. Poojitha said that on April 27, Ms. Rekha Rani’s parents had come to her house and told her that they were against their daughter, a divorcee, marrying Mr. Vijay, scheduled for April 28. The actress then lodged a complaint with the Cyberabad police through WhatsApp.

Cyberabad police were said to have visited the Police Officers’ Mess in Masab Tank and were told at the reception that there was a marriage scheduled at 8.29 a.m..

However, the IAS officer got married at about 11 a.m., with a senior Indian Police Service officer signing as a witness.

Personal reasons

On her part, Ms. Rekha Rani maintained that Mr. Vijay was only involved in a ‘live-in’ relationship with Ms. Poojitha and that she was showing herself as an aggrieved woman suffering injustice. The IAS officer said it was her own mother and her relatives who were egging on Ms. Poojitha for their own personal reasons. “As adults, Vijay and I got married and I do not know why my parents are acting against us, in this fashion,” she said.
