In the run up to the final judgement of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on development work near KBR Park, activists and local residents came together once again to save the national park.
What started as a campaign has become a weekly affair outside the main gate of the park, where joggers and members of Hyderabad Rising interact. On Sunday morning, those opposing the axing of trees and acquisition of the walkway of the KBR Park for Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) spoke on the need for saving greenery in the area besides providing information on the technical aspects of the project which would affect the park’s ecosystem.
Dozens of members armed with placards and banners held protests outside the main gate of the park at Banjara Hills. The message was conveyed in a unique way by musicians who joined the protesters. According to the members of Hyderabad Rising, programmes would be organised every weekend till the NGT gives the judgement.
The protest programme went on till 9 a.m. The members have been protesting against the SRDP project.
As part of the project, a number of multi-level flyovers would be built across the city for which thousands of trees are proposed to be axed by the State government.
