Sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught P. Jagadesh Babu, an assistant engineer from Panchayat Raj department, while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹1.5 lakh from a contractor for sanctioning a bill for CC road work here on Wednesday. He was arrested and will be produced before the ACB court on Thursday.

Anti-Corruption Bureau DSP T. Sudarshan Goud said that the AE had demanded ₹2 lakh from a contractor M. Ganga Reddy, who had completed a CC Road work valued at ₹10 lakh under the Constituency Development Fund in July. But, the contractor said that it was not feasible to provide that much of ransom amount as he would land in debts and offered to pay only 4% of the the bill value.

But, the AE insisted on getting at least ₹1.5 lakh for the sanction of the bill. The contractor approached the ACB and lodged a complaint.

The ACB sleuths after conducting thorough inquiry and finding antecedents of the complainant trapped the AE while he was accepting ₹1.5 lakh bribe in his office chambers on Wednesday and arrested him.
