The results of Civil Services main examination were announced on Wednesday and nearly 100 aspirants from the two Telugu States, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, are expected to have cleared it to appear for the personality test. Though the exact number is not yet known as many Telugus appear for the exam from Delhi and other parts of the country, the number of aspirants who are expected to have cleared the exam is quite reasonable given the growing popularity of the civil services, particularly among professional degree-holders like engineers and medicos. At the all India level, 2,565 aspirants have been declared qualified for the interview (personality test) and among them, around 1,000 are likely to be selected for positions that includes IAS, IPS, IRS, Group A and Group B services. Interestingly, it’s for the first time that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), that conducts the exam, has declared the results in January and it is in tune with the UPSC’s decision to reduce the time cycle of the examination. Gopala Krishna, director of Brain Tree that trains the aspirants, said personality test has become all the more important as the new cadre allocation policy has come into effect from this year.

He said candidates would have 40 days to prepare for the personality test and the marks that they get in it are crucial. Mr. Krishna said the aspirants should be thorough with the information provided in the application form and also the current affairs. The personality test revolves around candidates’ background and their ability to deal with situations rather than their knowledge of their subject.

In the preliminary exam conducted on June 18, 2017, nearly six lakh candidates appeared, of whom 13,366 were declared qualified for the mains, which was held from October 27 to November 3, 2017. Of those who appeared for the mains, 2,565 have been selected for the personality test.
