Hyderabad District Collector Mukhesh Kumar Meena on Saturday announced that Aadhaar kits would be given to various gas agencies in the city for a month so that those who did not have UIDs may be enrolled by the agencies themselves.
The kits will be delivered to the agencies within a week, Mr. Meena said. He also urged dealers to visit consumers’ homes and create awareness about Aadhaar enrolment.
According to a press release, he discussed the enrolment position at a meeting with LPG dealers at the collectorate on Saturday.
So far, only 51.13 per cent consumers have seeded their Aadhaar number with gas agencies in the city, and only 20 per cent have given their bank account numbers. Mr. Meena told dealers to ensure that by July end, 15 per cent more Aadhaar numbers were seeded.
Dealers were also told to collect the bank account numbers of even those consumers who had received only enrolment IDs, so that the process would be simplified once they got their UIDs. Bank counters will be opened near enrolment centres so that those who do not have accounts may immediately open one.
Mr. Meena asked the Chief Rationing Officer to use the BSNL ring tone for the next two months to increase awareness about the significance of Aadhaar for availing subsidy on LPG.
In another meeting with dealers, Ranga Reddy District Joint Collector M.V. Reddy asked them to contact consumers directly or though phone wherever the Aadhaar seeding was less than 50 per cent.
Till now, only 52 per cent Aadhaar seeding with LPG and 22 per cent with bank accounts have been done in the district.
