The newly-crowned World No.1 in women’s doubles Sania Mirza says it’s a totally different and amazing feeling to be back home as the premier player in the world.
She returned home amid a crowded media which assembled at the airport and welcomed by her mother Nasima and sister Anam, who were in the city when Sania scaled the summit on Sunday night.
A delighted Sania dedicated her latest achievement to the entire country and all those who supported her throughout.
“Yes, everything seems to be falling in place and more so after being named the Brand Ambassador of Telangana State. I am really grateful to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for giving me such an honour. I hope I am living up to their expectations,” she said.
‘No time to celebrate’
“There is no time even to celebrate as I have to overcome the jet lag in very little time and get on to the court on Wednesday to lead India in the Fed Cup women’s team event,” she exclaimed, pointing out that it will be a “sentimental trip to Fateh Maidan tennis complex where I won my first WTA title 11 years ago.”
