A smart camp for summer

April 10, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 10:09 am IST - HYDERABAD:

It’s that time of the year again. The school year nears its end, exams are almost over, and the excitement of summer holidays around the corner is palpable. While the holidays bring with them the prospect of long summery days spent in blissful laziness, they also open up endless possibilities – to experience, innovate and learn.

The Hindu Young World presents the second edition of its Summer Smart Camp, a platform to equip children with interesting skills in exciting ways. Open to children in the ages of 8 to 13, the camp will provide children the opportunity to learn, think, share and stay resourceful during the summer break.

Across 3 cities

The five-day camp will be held across three cities – Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. In Hyderabad, the camp is scheduled for May 16 – 20 at three centres – Ameerpet, Dilsukhnagar, SD Road (Secunderabad).

The content has been tailor-made for children in two age groups: Basic Level (age 8 to 10) and Advanced Level (age 11 to 13).

What’s in store

Exciting sessions on a curated mix of content await participants. Each day will offer the participants an opportunity to explore a different course – Robotics, Theatre, English, Quiz, and Art.

The Robotics session will have children get hands-on training on basic robotic components and understanding of autonomous robots. Participants will take home their own robotics kit.

The Know Your English sessions will offer a chance for participants to experience English and probe its funny quirks – oxymorons, spoonerisms, analogies and more, interspersed with fun games.

In the Quiz session, participants will experience the thrill of competing in a quiz and will learn approaches to pick up trivia from the world around them.

In the Art session, students will be encouraged to tap their creativity, with younger students making a literal self-portrait and an observational artwork while using a variety of mediums. Older students will work on an introspective self-portrait followed by a product design project.

In the Theatre session, children will dive into fun theatre exercises, tackling teambuilding and leadership skills in a fun-filled way, apart from having activities targeted at performance skills, acting and voice modulation for dramatic performances.

Packed with newly curated modules, the Summer Smart Camp promises to be an exciting addition to the summer holidays. The course fee is Rs. 3,000 (including a robotics kit and 6 months’ subscription to The Hindu Young World) . Camlin Kokuyo is the associate sponsor of the camp.
