February 06, 2017 10:31 pm | Updated 10:31 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

It is a windfall for women in the teachers recruitment with about 80 per cent of the 7,306 vacancies announced on Monday for recruitment in residential schools reserved for women candidates.

The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) issued notification announcing 7,306 vacancies in all residential schools in Telangana. The institutions include social welfare, tribal welfare, BC welfare, minority welfare and general institutions. The vacancies include not just subject teachers but also those in physical education, art, craft, music, library and staff nurses.

While the maximum vacancies of 4,362 were announced for Trained Graduate Teachers, sources said that 3,328 were reserved for women. Similarly, out of the 921 posts in the Post Graduate teachers category, 732 were earmarked for women. Among the 616 Physical Education teachers category, 456 are for women and out of the 372 art teacher vacancies, 236 will be for women.

Interestingly, all the six Physical Director posts are earmarked for women and music department will be full of women as 179 out of 197 notified posts are reserved for them. Similarly, among 256 librarian posts, 194 will be for women and among the 533 staff nurse vacancies, 393 are earmarked for women. Out of the 43 craft teacher posts, 35 will be for women.

When contacted, TSPSC Chairman Ghanta Chakrapani confirmed the large number of posts going for women and the reason being attributed is the decision to recruit only women candidates for exclusive girls residential schools. Moreover, 33 per cent posts in vacancies are automatically earmarked for women across all reservation categories.

The selection will be based on two-level exam with the first screening test common for all applicants and the second level test will be conducted on Computer Based Test (CBT) method after short-listing candidates in 1:15 ratio for all posts. The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is must.

Applications have to be submitted online and will be accepted from February 10 to March 4 this year. Details are available on the TSPSC website www.tspsc.gov.in
