The State Government will significantly enhance the budgetary allocation to the animal husbandry and allied sectors during 2017-18 financial year. This decision has been taken for effective implementation of the welfare and development schemes aimed at benefiting the families dependent on them.

The allocation proposed is ₹ 200 crore more than current year’s and has been pegged at ₹ 1,282.79 crore, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav has said. Out of the total allocation, ₹ 1,000 crore will be exclusively for the implementation of different schemes to ensure accelerated growth of the sector.

Activities like deworming of the cattle will be taken up with these funds, but the department has allocated significant amounts for enhancing the vaccine production capabilities in tune with the anticipated growth of the sector.

It proposes to provide 50% subsidy on fodder supply to farmers, while equal emphasis would be laid on completing the repairs, construction of new buildings and providing equipment in the veterinary hospitals across the State.

For fisheries alone ₹ 309 crore was allocated for ensuring effective completion of targets set for the department. Subsidy would also be provided to fishermen opting for purchase of boats, nets, vehicles and other equipment. This was in addition to introduction of accidental insurance scheme for the community and work on setting up of 40 markets in different districts of the State.
