The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Monday sought a report from the Hyderabad District Collector by February 27 in connection with the death of five women during delivery procedures at the State-run Niloufer Hospital here.

HR violations

City-based NGO Helping Hand Foundation and families of the deceased women had filed complaints with the SHRC and the inquiry officer, alleging that there were serious human rights violations during C-section surgeries and subsequent medical management in all the cases.

In the complaint, it was alleged by the families of the victims that junior resident doctors performed the surgeries without proper care and supervision of senior doctors that led to profuse bleeding immediately after surgery in all the five cases.

Compensation demanded

“Government should take stringent action against the erring doctors and also pay a compensation of at least ₹ 10 lakh per family as all these families are from economically weaker sections,” they said.

Earlier, a three-member committee of senior doctors was formed to ascertain the cause of deaths of five women during C-section delivery procedures at the hospital between January 29 and February 4.

The Telangana government also ordered an inquiry by the Hyderabad District Collector Rahul Bojja into the deaths. — PTI
