An elderly man committed suicide just hours after killing his wife late in the night on Tuesday at Anandbagh under the Malkajgiri police station limits. The couple were identified as Lakshmamma, believed to be aged 62 years and her husband B. Kistaiah, who was a few years older , said a police official.

According to the Malkajgiri police, Kistaiah and Lakshmamma had an argument on Monday night. Kistaiah, who worked as a watchman in a building, got angry at his wife, who wanted to reportedly go out. After a fight, he hit and stabbed her to death with a knife, said an official.

“After murdering her, Kistaiah called up his son Santosh and told him that Lakshmamma had died of electrocution. Their son came and saw that was not the case. Kistaiah then went to the fourth floor of the building and hanged to death with a rope,” said the official. The murder took place after midnight on Tuesday and the suicide a few hours later after 3 a.m. added the official.
