The Telangana joint action committee suffered a revolt on Wednesday when its convenor Pittala Ravinder and two other office-bearers shot off an open letter to the chairman M. Kodandaram over his style of functioning.

The letter by Mr. Ravinder, an advocate N. Prahlad and Tanveer Sultana asked Mr. Kodandaram to spell out whether the JAC was people’s organisation or a political party. They expressed anguish that Mr. Kodandaram gave a go by to the resolution adopted by an extended general body meeting of the JAC that it remain a people’s organisation. Mr. Kodandaram defied the principle of JAC on collective action.

They reminded that Mr. Kodandaram ascended the post of chairman by the approval of JAC activists. However, he functioned with a feudal ideology.

They questioned his sharing platforms with political leaders.

The fissures in JAC came to the fore during its aborted rally on unemployment problems in the State on February 22. Some office-bearers requested Mr. Kodandaram to expel Mr. Ravinder, but the former refused to take any action. He said Mr. Ravinder was free to leave or continue in JAC. The differences arose because Mr. Ravinder did not agree with Mr. Kodandaram turning down the government’s offer to give permission to a public meeting by JAC on city outskirts. The JAC recently lost its city president A. Sridhar who was appointed by the government as chairman of Grandhalaya Samstha. Several other office-bearers, including Council chairman K. Swamy Goud, were offered plum posts in government and legislature.
