Car knocks down bike rider; driver escapes

A bike rider was fatally knocked down by a speeding car on Hyderabad-Siddipet highway on city outskirts in Shamirpet on Thursday.

The victim D. Kanakaiah of Mulugu was riding the bike while his friend Venkatesh sat pillion.

Kanakaiah started for home from Shamirpet on the bike when the accident occurred around 9.30 a.m. near Lalgadi Malakpet.

“The car was at high speed and apparently being driven rashly. It rammed the bike and Kanakaiah’s head hit the road,” Shamirpet Inspector Sattaiah said.

Death was instant for the bike rider while Venkatesh sustained severe injuries.

The car driver fled abandoning the vehicle on the road.
